…and now for a post about HTML5

Again, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything due to real world commitments, but I’ve also been working on a couple of ‘side-projects’ recently, one of which comes from my web developer side, in the form of game development and HTML5.

I’m getting quite into the whole HTML5 game making now, with my latest attempt is an early Final Fantasy/Link’s Awakening style game.

Basic keyboard controls done, NPC AI in place, Collision detection done (on a single tree stump..), layers working.. Currently confined to a 640×460 area, but it’s a start!


I have a list of things I want to add, such as sprite animation, exploration, interaction with NPCs. The list seems to get longer by the hour.

There is much refactoring to do on my javascript code – that’s the boring bit, but it will definitely be a better idea to do this sooner rather than later and definitely before working through my ‘to-add’ list.

All of the graphics I’ve currently pilfered from across the web – I’m planning on replacing these with my own graphics, but that’s not a priority at the moment.


Also discovered the joys of naming my script files profane things to satisfy the immature voice inside my head.. “lol at ‘boobs.js'”

I don’t have any plans to turn this into a MMORPG or anything serious, it’s more of a learning exercise to teach myself a new technology. But who knows, maybe one day it will get to a stage where it will be ‘playable’.
